Next-gen Tata Nexon spied testing on the road; expected design, features, engine

The Nexon is one of the best-selling products in the sub-compact SUV category from the house of Tata Motors. While the Tata Nexon has been updated several times during the nine-year period, the company is preparing a generational update for the compact SUV, with a heavily camouflaged test mule recently spotted on public roads. Here’s everything that could be new in the next-gen Tata Nexon:

New-Gen Tata Nexon Spotted Testing

A heavily camouflaged SUV was recently spotted testing, and its overall silhouette and ORVM design suggest that it could be the next-generation Tata Nexon. While the extensive camouflage hides most of the exterior details, the sighting confirms that Tata Motors is actively working on the new model. The new-generation Nexon is expected to bring changes in its design, cabin, features and powertrain lineup, making it an important update for Tata Motors in the highly competitive sub-compact SUV segment.

New-Gen Tata Nexon: Expected Design

Tata Motors has evolved its design language across its recent SUVs, and the new-gen Nexon is expected to follow the same direction. The upcoming model could feature a revised front-end design, connected LED daytime running lights, a redesigned front grille and bumpers, among others. The SUV is likely to receive a fresh set of alloy wheels and redesigned tail lamps, featuring a connected LED light bar at the rear.

The picture suggests that the Nexon will retain its silhouette. However, the overall styling has been sharpened and made more angular, compared to the current-gen Nexon. The next-gen Nexon is expected to get an integrated spoiler, along with a rear washer and wiper tucked away neatly under it.

The interior could get a makeover, with improved material quality, a redesigned dashboard and a more premium ambience, elevating the experience. The interior design has evolved with the new models, as the company has started using sustainable materials across its interior and exterior.

New-Gen Tata Nexon: Expected Features

The current Tata Nexon comes with an extensive list of equipment, including ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat, ADAS, a 360-degree camera and a panoramic sunroof. However, the next-generation model could boast features, including Level 2 ADAS, a larger dual-screen display setup, an augmented-reality (AR) head-up display and a powered front passenger seat, among others. Not only that, but the company could also introduce a premium 12-speaker JBL audio system, among other upgrades.

New-Gen Tata Nexon: Expected Powertrain Options

The Tata Nexon is currently powered by two different engine options: a 1.2L three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, and a 1.5L four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. Not only that, but the Nexon has an electric iteration as well. The next-gen is expected to retain the current powertrain options, while adding to the transmission optiuons available with the current-gen.

New-Gen Tata Nexon: Expected Launch Timeline and Price

The new-generation Tata Nexon is expected to launch around mid-2027. With the expected design, feature and powertrain upgrades, the upcoming SUV is likely to command a premium over the current model. The new Nexon could be priced between ₹9 lakh and ₹18.50 lakh, depending on the variant and powertrain. For the new-generation model, Tata could further expand the powertrain lineup and offer an AMT transmission option for the CNG version, while the Nexon EV might get a larger battery pack or denser battery pack.
