<p>Electric two-wheelers make a lot of sense for people who will be using them only for city commutes and for performing their daily chores. Moreover, they are quite practical also. Electric two-wheelers are becoming more and more popular especially since legacy manufacturers such as Bajaj and TVS entered the segment.</p>

<p>TVS Motor Company first launched the <a class="autobacklink-topic" target="_blank" href="https://auto.hindustantimes.com/new-bikes/tvs/iqubeelectric" data-name="iQube electric">iQube electric</a> scooter in January 2020. Then they provided a significant update to the iQube in 2022. The manufacturer introduced three variants - Base, S and ST. It is important to note that the ST variant has still not gone on sale, TVS has not yet revealed the price nor they have announced a delivery timeline. One of the questions, that people have is whether they should wait for the ST trim or buy the current variants. Well, I have also booked the iQube ST and to find out whether it is worth waiting or not, I decided to live for a few days with the iQube S. Here are my views after riding the iQube S for 500 km.</p>

<h2>TVS iQube S: Looks and build quality</h2><p>In terms of design, all the variants of the iQube look identical apart from the variant badging and colour schemes. The iQube does not really stand out while riding in the city, it has a very conventional design, just like an ICE-powered scooter. There is a U-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamp on the handlebar while the headlamp and tail lamp are thin strips of LED units. The throw from the headlamp is quite good and is quite decent even on the highbeam. An interesting touch is the Electric badging on the rear left swingarm that glows blue while charging. The iQube is very well built, and there are absolutely no rattles from anywhere while going over bad roads.</p>

<h2>TVS iQube S: Battery pack, range and charging</h2></p>

<p>This is the area where there is quite a big difference when compared to the ST variant. The iQube S comes with a 3.04 kWh battery pack, TVS claims a riding range of 100 km in Eco mode and 75 km in Power mode. However, the screen would show a DTE read-out of 105 km at 100 per cent battery. On the other hand, the iQube ST has a larger 4.56 kWh battery pack that has a claimed range figure of 145 km in Eco mode and 110 km in Power mode. I found the range to be quite believable, there were no sudden range drops, the DTE was always very consistent and after a while, your confidence starts increasing as you start trusting the DTE more. This is when the range anxiety slowly starts going away. However, still, 105 km of range for some people might not be enough.</p>

<p>For my use case scenario, I used to plug in the scooter whenever I returned home, then use the scooter in the evening and plug it in again when I returned home. I didn't have to charge the scooter overnight as I used to turn off the charger before sleeping and the scooter would often be around 100 per cent, always ready for the next day. In terms of charging times, TVS says that the scooter takes 4 hours and 30 minutes to fully charge but that is the thing, for my use case, I never had to fully charge it so charging times were not as long and this might be true for many other people as well. A special mention goes to the way the charger is designed, it is long and there is a dedicated handle that can be used to pick up the charger. Having said that, a charging case would have been nice and it does take some time to get used to the way the charger clicks into the charging socket.</p>

<p>Speaking of charging, the iQube ST comes with a faster 950 W charger that takes 4 hours and 6 minutes to fully charge and there is an optional 1500 W charger as well that takes just 2 hours and 30 minutes. There is regenerative braking also that helps in preserving the battery and it is quite strong but once you get used to it, the usage of traditional brakes decreases quite a lot.</p>

<h2>TVS iQube S: Ride and handling</h2><p>The ride quality of the iQube is very good, it is subtle and comfortable. The suspension setup absorbs most of the bad patches and only the sharpest bumps are transferred to the rider because the suspension starts bottoming out. Now, the handling part, iQube S feels nimble, it maintains its line while cornering but the front-end does feel a bit heavy in bumper-to-bumper traffic.</p>

<h2>TVS iQube S: Performance</h2><p>All the variants of the iQube are powered by a BLDC hub-mounted motor that produces 4.4 kW of peak power, 140 Nm of peak torque and 33 Nm of rated torque output. A special mention goes to how smooth and silent the scooter is.</p>

<p>As mentioned above, the scooter has two riding modes, there is Eco and Power. The Eco mode packs in enough performance that one can ride the scooter in the city without any issues but the top speed is limited. Then there is the Power mode, in which the increase in power delivery can be felt instantly. The scooter starts pulling strongly and hits its speedo-indicated top speed of 86 kmph. The scooter does not limit its performance even after using it in Power mode for long durations. However, one thing that I did notice is that the instrument cluster would show an error but there would be no error in the system which is quite weird.</p>

<h2>TVS iQube S: Braking</h2><p>The braking duties on the iQube S are done by a disc in the front and a drum at the rear. The brakes have a good bite but they come with CBS and there is no ABS on offer. While it is useful in most cases, white riding on gravel roads, the wheels seem to lock-up because of the CBS. It would have been nice if TVS offered ABS or maybe they can add it to the iQube ST.</p>

<p>In terms of features, the iQube S is equipped with a digital screen that shows all the vital information. It does come with day/night themes but they don't change automatically. What does change automatically is the brightness but it is quite slow to respond. The screen is not a touchscreen unit, that is reserved for the ST trim. To operate the screen on the iQube S, there is a joystick but it is quite finicky to use. There is also connected tech and its application is quite slick for the most part. However, connecting it to show music and navigation details is quite finicky. There is also a USB port under the seat that can be used to charge mobile devices. Apart from this, there is LED lighting, a hazard switch and reverse mode but it is a bit awkward to use. One important thing to note is that the scooter does not make any sound which is good for an electric vehicle but this means that often other people can't hear it.</p>

<h2>TVS iQube S: Verdict</h2><p>The iQube is one of the most sorted electric scooters that a person can buy in the Indian market. A person who will be using the scooter only for city duties can opt for the S trim and if he or she is on a budget, even the Standard trim should be fine. The ST trim makes sense for those who need that extra bit of riding range, touchscreen, fast charging and more features. The Standard trim of the iQube is priced at  <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>99,130 whereas the iQube S costs  <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>1.04 lakh. Both these prices are ex-showroom, Delhi and include Fame II subsidy. <p>The KTM 390 Duke changed the rules of motorcycling in India when it first arrived a decade ago. Such was the impact that performance motorcycling took a new direction, especially at an accessible price point, given the locally built nature of the bike. The first generation 390 Duke was launched at  <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>1.8 lakh (ex-showroom) in 2013, which feels like a steal in today’s inflated market prices. The power-to-price ratio was unheard of and while many have come close, few managed to replicate the formula as successfully as KTM did.</p>

<p>Now, there’s an all-new generation of the <a class="manualbacklink" target="_blank" href="https://auto.hindustantimes.com/new-bikes/ktm/390-duke">KTM 390 Duke</a> on sale. The third generation 390 Duke takes a giant leap compared to its predecessors. Costing almost twice as much, this iteration promises to bring the best of the first two generations in performance and desirability. But can it tug the same heartstrings as the original did? Can it provide the same visceral experience that the 390 Duke has been known for? We rode the 2024 KTM 390 Duke recently and here’s what we think.</p>

2024 KTM 390 Duke: Super Duke-inspired design</h2><p>The third generation KTM 390 Duke builds on the learnings from the first two generations. The styling is bolder, inspired by the larger 1290 Super Duke. The new headlamp cluster is positioned lower with the LED DRLs flanked on the outside. The redesigned fuel tank has a capacity of 15 litres, 1.5 litres more than the previous generation. It looks more aggressive too with the tank shrouds extending at either end beyond the front forks.</p>

<p>There’s a new side panel, a first on the 390 Duke, which blends well into the new aluminium subframe. The new unit joins the trellis frame and is an absolutely gorgeous unit mimicking the larger Duke models. There’s a new swingarm too, intended to make the bike more agile than before. The new 390 Duke is still as compact as before and the wheelbase too has shrunk by 3 mm at 1354 mm. But the road presence remains strong. The bold new face makes it an attention seeker and there’s no real way to keep things low-key. Then again, you already knew that when you decided to bring one home.</p>

<p>The tail section is sharply styled with the new LED taillight looking smart and further adding to the nice presence of the bike on the road. There are new wheels too borrowed from the latest generation RC 390. The new 390 Duke gets clamps across the crucial bits for additional reinforcements. The stepholders and footpegs use forged parts for weight savings. KTM retains the orange paint scheme throughout the motorcycle, which is now available in two colours - Atlantic Blue and Electronic Orange.</p>

2024 KTM 390 Duke: Weight savings</h2><p>The new KTM 390 Duke has also seen a weight reduction over its predecessor. The motorcycle has shed weight from crucial areas. The new engine is lighter by 1 kg, while the wheels are 1.7 kg lighter with fewer spokes, an open hub design and a hollow axle. The bike also loses a tyre hugger, helping shed about 800 grams of critical mass. Overall, the new 390 Duke is 3.6 kg lighter than its predecessor with a kerb weight of 168.4 kg, allowing for an ever better power-to-weight ratio.</p>

2024 KTM 390 Duke: New digital console</h2><p>The third-gen 390 Duke gets a massive update in the form of its new 5-inch TFT screen. The digital console is not only much easier to read but the layout is simpler and easy to operate too. The console shows all the critical information including access to the many features from adjusting between ride modes to turning on/off traction control and ABS. The new digital console also comes with Bluetooth connectivity bringing turn-by-turn navigation via an app, a first and much-needed feature on the bike. You can accept or decline calls or change music as well. The switchgear is new and feels premium with a nice tactile feel.</p>

<p>The 390 Duke comes with three riding modes - Rain, Street and Track. While Rain limits the power and torque output, Street and Track give you full access to the streetfighter’s prowess. The Track mode also gets its own display with an independent screen layout showing the Launch Control mode, a lap timer and more.</p>

2024 KTM 390 Duke: Ergonomics</h2><p>Rider ergonomics have improved dramatically. The wheelbase is shorter by 3 mm but the overall seating is much better. You now sit “in” the bike rather than on the bike, says KTM, and that’s because there’s more mass around the seat covering the rider. The new riding position makes you feel more connected to the motorcycle, nearly becoming one with it.</p>

<p>You still get rear-set footpegs and a wide handlebar but the legs can hold on to the fuel tank much better. The upright riding posture is just right and the bike feels more accommodating than before for taller riders. In fact, the new seat design feels roomier with just enough space to wiggle further back for a more dedicated riding posture. The cushioning is medium hard, which will keep you comfortable on longer rides and is contoured rather well. The seat height measures 800 mm for the India-spec model, which should easily accommodate riders of all sizes. That said, the export-spec motorcycle gets a taller seat height of 820 mm. KTM says it’s working on making the taller seat an accessory for the Indian market, should taller riders want to upgrade.</p>

2024 KTM 390 Duke: Performance</h2><p>The 2024 KTM 390 Duke's big talking point is its new engine. The displacement has gone up from 373 cc to 399 cc, thanks to a larger stroke. The bore size remains the same. The result is higher power and torque figures that come in much earlier in the rev band. The motor develops 44.2 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 39 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm, both kicking in 500 rpm earlier than the Gen2 motorcycle. The engine immediately feels a lot more refined than before while retaining its high-revving nature.</p>

<p>The new motor is also more tractable than before. About 30 Nm or 80 per cent of torque kicks in right from 5,000 rpm, which gives it dollops of performance right from the start. It’s still very much a high-revving engine but can handle low speeds much better. The mid-range and top-end continue to be the strongest but there are far fewer vibrations across the rev band. Power comes in no time and you will be doing well over 100 kmph in the third gear without even realising it. The big difference is that power delivery is more seamless and unless you are explicitly looking down at the console, you won’t know how fast you are going.</p>

<p>The 6-speed gearbox remains a slick shifter and comes with an assist and slipper clutch that comes in handy in peak-hour traffic, while the quickshifter is decent and helpful on the racetrack. The 390 Duke also gets a new radiator from RC 390 that helps in better cooling. KTM claims a top speed of 155 kmph on the new 390 Duke and the company is just being conservative with that.</p>

<p>This writer managed to hit 155 kmph without breaking a sweat at the Bajaj test track in Chakan, Maharashtra, with ample room left for the engine to stretch its legs. The big takeaway though is just how composed the bike is at high speeds, bringing a more mature characteristic to the motorcycle without having to compromise on the fun quotient.</p>

2024 KTM 390 Duke: Handling &amp; Braking</h2><p>The new 390 Duke almost behaves like its older siblings. It flows into corners more seamlessly at high speeds. As another journalist pointed out, it feels like the 790 Duke at times, and I couldn’t agree more. The composure around a bend certainly gives it the big bike feeling without the extra displacement. It also helps that the bike finally gets an adjustable suspension, configurable for compression and rebound at the front and rear. The mean settings work like a charm and you can stiffen the suspension for the track or soften it up for the road.</p>

<p>Find the right setting for your liking and the 390 Duke feels agile and corners more effortlessly. The track feels right at home, especially with the higher ground clearance at 183 mm allowing for better lean angles. The H-rated Metzeler tyres work well but higher-rated tyres would justify the motorcycle’s capabilities much better. On the road too, the bike is comfortably manoeuvrable and slices through traffic like a scalpel.</p>

<p>Braking performance remains as sharp as ever, especially since the second generation 390 Duke came around. The 320 mm front and 240 mm rear disc brake setup works well and there’s little to complain here. The bite is strong from the front lever and the ABS intervention is just right. The new Supermoto mode will disengage the rear ABS for some rear-wheeled fun. There’s also Launch Control that ensures you don’t pull any unwanted wheelies by modulating the traction control and is only operable in the Track mode.</p>

2024 KTM 390 Duke: Price &amp; Verdict</h2><p>The third-generation KTM 390 Duke feels like an old friend, only the one that has returned from its travels, more mature and experienced this time. But it still has the same soul. It’s still as entertaining if not more but a lot more forgiving than before. And yes, it does tug the right strings of the heart.</p>

<p>The new 390 Duke remains as dedicated as ever to bring performance without compromise. Try to find more and you’ll be doing a disservice to what the bike is intended for. Priced at  <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>3.11 lakh (ex-showroom), it’s just  <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>12,000 more than the previous generation and feels so much more value. While it had lost the power-to-price ratio in recent times, the new 390 Duke fabulously resets the status quo.</p>

<p>When it seemed the competition was finally catching up, KTM once again set a new benchmark with the new 390 Duke. The ideal pocket rocket then? You bet! This is still the best-performance motorcycle under 400 cc. Go take a test ride, you won’t be disappointed.</p>

<p><strong>TVS Raider 125</strong> <br>The 125 cc segment is quite popular in the Indian market. The Raider 125 is one of the latest entrants into this segment. It is sold in four variants. There is SX, SSE, Split Seat and Single Seat. The price of the TVS Rader 125 starts at Rs 95,439 and goes up to Rs 1,03,830 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom. In terms of colour options, the Raider 125 is available with Fiery Yellow, Blazing Blue, Forza Blue, Striking Red and Wicked Black. There are also a couple of special editions available with the Raider 125 that are inspired by Marvel Comics. <br><br>The design language of the Raider 125 is quite interesting, it does not look like a traditional commuted motorcycle. Up-front there is an LED headlamp and a muscular fuel tank. Depending on the variant that the customer opts for, the Raider 125 gets a split seat setup or a single seat. There is a slim LED tail lamp and halogen turn indicators. <br><br>Being a TVS product, there are a lot of features on offer. The Raider 125 is equipped with riding modes, helmet attention indication, side stand indication and engine cut-off, a USB port for charging mobile devices, under-seat storage and a reverse LCD instrument cluster. On the top- end variant, TVS offers a 5-inch TFT screen that gets Bluetooth connectivity using SmartXonnect. It gets an ambient light sensor to change from light to dark mode automatically. This also means that it is the most modern motorcycle when it comes to 125 cc motorcycles.</p>

<h2>TVS Raider 125: Design</h2><p>On the design front, the <a class="autobacklink-topic" target="_blank" href="https://auto.hindustantimes.com/new-bikes/tvs/raider" data-name="Raider">Raider</a> gets fairly sporty exteriors which are surely on the aggressive side. At the front sits an LED headlamp with unique-looking LED DRLs placed inside the assembly. Having said that, to some people, the design will be a bit polarizing. While the headlamp is LED, indicators are traditional halogen units which comes as a bit of a surprise as the motorcycle is supposed to be feature-loaded and modern as it comes from TVS. Then there is the fuel tank, it sports a fairly muscular stance with a black stripe running in the middle, contributing to its sporty appearance. Furthermore, there are split seats and LED tail lamps at the back to woo its target audience. The motorcycle is equipped with alloy wheels with tubeless tyres which are important in today's day and age.</p>

<p>TVS will be offering the Raider in four colour schemes. There is Striking Red, Blazing Blue, Wicked Blue and Fiery Yellow. The manufacturer is also offering a kit visor that enhances the appeal of the motorcycle. The visor is made up of plastic and has UV additives so that it does not start fading while the motorcycle is parked under direct sunlight.</p>

<h2>TVS Raider 125: Features</h2><p>TVS is known for loading their motorcycles with features. The Raider 125 is no different. In fact, it brings several best-in-segment features to the 125 cc segment. One of the key highlights of the bike includes its reverse digital display which is new for its segment. It is capable of displaying all the necessary information in a clear and readable format. Apart from the regular informatics such as speed, rpm meter, time, fuel level, etc. the screen also shows riding modes information and gear position indicator.</p>

<p>On the top-end variant, TVS is offering a 5-inch TFT screen that is IP69K rated so it is water and dust-resistant. The screen is also capable of 1000 nits of brightness so there should not be any issue in reading the display under direct sunlight. Other features on offer are a USB charger to charge mobile devices, helmet attention indication to remind the rider to wear a helmet, synchronized braking and side stand indication with cut-off.</p>

<p>TVS also offers a SmartXconnect application that uses Bluetooth. It is available on the Apple App Store as well as Google Play Store. The application is capable of showing loads of information such as set navigation, voice assist with 20+ voice commands, ride details, a live dashboard, an overview of motorcycle and ride reports. It is important to note that the SmartXconnect features are offered only on the top-end variant.</p>

<h2>TVS Raider 125: Engine, performance and fuel efficiency</h2><p>The new Raider comes based on a fresh platform and sources power from a 124 cc single-cylinder engine that is an air-cooled unit. This brand new powertrain delivers 11.32 PS at 7,500 rpm and around 11.2 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. The transmission on duty is a 5-speed unit. TVS says that it has laid special stress on the internal cooling of the engine to keep the efficiency and output high. With a claimed mileage figure of around 60-70 kmpl, the engine is already up there to meet the expectations of its target audience. The engine manages to stay smooth even under hard acceleration tests and the transmission is also slick to complement the powertrain. It stays relatively vibration-free even when revved hard, and there's enough low-end torque to keep the rider engaged at city speeds.</p>

<p>However, in Eco mode, the motorcycle does feel a bit underpowered. Speaking of Eco mode, it restricts the redline and enables auto start/stop functionality to increase fuel efficiency. The rider can switch to power mode using a switch which is placed in the position of the ignition switch. When compared to other rivals, the Raider 125 does feel quite peppy and the engine is also quite tractable as it can pull in 5th gear from around 35-40 kmph.</p>

<h2>TVS Raider 125: Comfort</h2><p>TVS has designed the Raider to fit riders of all heights and at just 780 mm of seat height, it surely feels low enough to keep your feet down with confidence. Also, the riding geometry has been kept on the sportier side thanks to the slightly rear-set footpegs and forward-placed handlebar. However, the rider should not get tired while riding for long durations because the overall riding triangle is quite comfortable.</p>

<h2>TVS Raider 125: Ride quality and handling</h2><p>The motorcycle weighs just 123 kg which makes it quite light. The nature of the Raider is also quite nimble which makes it a fun bike to ride. The suspension duties on the motorcycle are done by telescopic forks in the front and a gas-charged monoshock at the rear that is 5-step adjustable so the rider can tune it according to their preference. While the soft tuning has been made for everyday Indian roads, a stiffer setup gives the bike a different ability to feel faster around the corner and not hop on undulated patches.</p>

But the detailed view of the city and highway comfort remains reserved for obvious reasons. However, we did test the brakes and they packed plenty of stopping power to make the motorcycle come to a halt. Speaking of brakes, TVS is offering a 130 mm drum brake at both ends on the lower variants or customers can upgrade to the higher variants which get a 240 mm disc. While the motorcycle is not equipped with anti-lock braking system, it does come with synchronized braking technology.</p>

<h2>TVS Raider 125: Verdict</h2><p>The TVS Raider is a very uniquely positioned product that appears to be a sportier offering but not at the cost of burning a hole in your pocket.
