Hyundai Nexo: Overview

The second-generation Hyundai Nexo was globally unveiled in April 2025 at the Seoul Mobility Show in South Korea. This marks a significant step in the carmaker’s goal of hydrogen mobility. This mid-size fuel cell electric SUV serves as a technological showcase for the brand, combining Hyundai’s latest hydrogen powertrain developments with updates in design, cabin features, and driving range.

Although not commercially available in India, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has begun real-world testing of the first-generation Nexo in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation to assess the feasibility of hydrogen-powered cars in India, with trials expected to span 40,000 km.

Hyundai Nexo: Price

The second-generation Hyundai Nexo is yet to be launched in India and currently has no announced price. In international markets, the first-generation model retailed at a premium price point, and the second generation is likely to follow suit.

Hyundai Nexo: Variants

Details on trim-level distinctions have not yet been officially disclosed. Globally, Hyundai is expected to offer the Nexo in a single fully loaded specification at launch, featuring both design and performance enhancements over the outgoing model.

Hyundai Nexo: Colours

The new Hyundai Nexo will be available in six exterior colours globally. One of the most distinctive among these is the Goyo Copper Pearl shade. The body is finished using a three-coat paint process that alters its appearance under varying lighting conditions, contributing to the vehicle’s premium look.

Hyundai Nexo: Range & Battery

The second-generation Nexo features a hydrogen storage capacity of 6.69 kg, up from the 6.33 kg of the earlier model. This upgrade helps extend the driving range to over 700 km on a full tank, depending on conditions. The hydrogen fuel cell system delivers an output of 147.5 bhp, while the electric motor produces 150 kW (approximately 201 bhp), improving the 0–100 km/h acceleration time to 7.8 seconds, compared to 9.2 seconds in the previous model. The Nexo also benefits from real-time smart regenerative braking and improved cold-weather performance.

Hyundai Nexo: Specs & Features

The second-generation Hyundai Nexo is built around the 'Art of Steel' design philosophy and features horizontal groove patterns and reinforced cross-sections to emphasise structural strength. Its styling incorporates signature ‘HTWO’ lamps and a more rugged stance, distinguishing it from traditional electric SUVs.

Inside, it features a reworked interior with soft-touch materials, a curved digital dashboard, and an island-style centre console. It is equipped with digital side mirrors that feed live video directly to interior displays. Additional equipment includes a vision roof, dual-zone ambient lighting, ventilated rear seats with enhanced recline angles, and wider rear door openings for improved ingress and egress. The boot offers up to 993 litres of cargo capacity. Sustainability plays a central role, with seat upholstery made from recycled PET fabric and bio-processed leather.

The Nexo also comes with noise-abatement features, including ANC-R (Active Noise Control-Road) and specialised low-noise tyres. The European version of the SUV is rated to tow loads up to 1,000 kg.

Hyundai Nexo: Offers & Deals

Since the Nexo is not on sale in India, there are currently no offers or schemes applicable. However, its ongoing pilot programme with IndianOil may inform future availability and incentive structures.

Hyundai Nexo: Rivals

Globally, the Hyundai Nexo competes with other hydrogen-powered SUVs such as the Toyota Mirai and Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, though neither of those models is currently available in India. In terms of sustainable mobility in the Indian market, its indirect competition could come from high-range electric SUVs like the BYD Seal U or Hyundai Ioniq 5, depending on future launch strategies.
