The Bajaj Chetak was a common sight in years gone by and was quite the pride of owners. Now, the Pune-based company has brought back the good old days and the scooter but in an electric variant.

Bajaj recently launched the new Chetak in the electric version. The sale of battery powered scooter will start in Pune from January before moving to Bengaluru and other markets.

The scooter will be built at the company's Chakan plant and sold through the company's pro-biking dealers. The company also plans to move it to European markets some time in 2020.

The electric version of Bajaj Chatik returns after about 14 years. Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari displayed the scooter in presence of NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant and Managing Director of Bajaj Auto Rajiv Bajaj.

The company has not yet reported the price of the e-scooter, but reports claim it is unlikely to exceed 1.50 lakh.
