Made in India 2021 Jeep Wrangler’s debut postponed: 5 things you can expect
Jeep India has decided to postpone the launch of its first Made-in-India Wrangler SUV, which was scheduled to be launched today. The carmaker issued a statement that said, “Due to some organisational priorities, the price launch of the locally assembled Jeep Wrangler has been postponed to Wednesday, 11:30 am, 17th March 2021.” On Wednesday Jeep will reveal the price of the India-made Wrangler SUV, along with the details about the off-roader which will compete with the Land Rover Defender SUV and Mercedes-Benz G 350d when launched.
Here are five things you can expect about the India-made 2021 Jeep Wrangler SUV.
Jeep has begun assembling the India-made Wrangler SUVs at its Ranjangaon facility in Maharashtra already. Jeep has upgraded the facility for this purpose and had announced ₹180 crore in India to be able to manufacture the iconic off-roader locally. This will mean that the SUV will now be sold in the country as a completely knocked down (CKD) unit instead of a completely built unit (CBU).
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler SUV is likely to be offered in two variants. Jeep is expected to continue with its 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of producing 268bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque for the India-made Wrangler too. The engine, in the existing models that are being sold currently across India has an 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. That too is likely to be retained.
The upcoming 2021 Jeep Wrangler SUV will be available with an upgraded interior which is highlighted by a new-look dashboard. The updated dashboard will have a centrally placed 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The India-made Wrangler will also come with features such as passive keyless entry, push-button start, and many more. The 5-seater cabin layout will also get a bit more premium with new leather upholstery and contrast white stitching.
The design of the India-made Wrangler SUV is unlikely to have any changes as such. It will sport the same signature seven-slat grille with round LED headlamps, fender-mounted side indicators, 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, LED tail lights, tailgate-mounted spare wheel like the units that are being sold in India at present. The SUV may also be offered with version that has removable roof and doors.
