Delivering on demand
The Camp Mode is being widely seen as Tesla's way of listening to what many of its customers have been making noise about - making the EV sedans ready and raring for the outdoors. Over the past several years since Tesla Model S was launched back in 2012, there has been a growing call from US customers to have their cars more suitable for longer stays outdoors. And while the features like maintaining temperature and cabin lights turned on for a prolonged periods may not sound like much, it just was not possible over the course of an entire night without draining the battery pack completely.
Optics of operation
Tesla's release notes suggest that turning on Camp Mode inside the car would be at the touch of a button, quite literally. "Your car can now maintain airflow, temperature, interior lighting, as well as play music, and power devices when Camp Mode is enabled. To enable Camp Mode, tap the fan icon at the bottom of the touchscreen and set ‘Keep Climate On’ to ‘CAMP’ while your car is in ‘PARK," it says.

While Camp Mode is the biggest - and brightest - of the latest update from Tesla, it is hardly the only one. The company has also rolled out a number of other features in the latest software step forward. The new update also brings enhanced voice commands which can now also adjust side mirrors and support functionalities like opening glove box, improvements in voice-to-text interface for replying to messages, and visualization improvements. Interestingly, the visualization can show up anything from road markers and signs to even garbage bins. There are also new games and the introduction of TRAX, a software which helps you create music on the move.
Tesla has been giving glimpses into its product plans and 2019 was highlighted by the Cybertruck which, with Camp Mode and all the other recent updates, could well be a compact truck-home on wheels. The company's focus at the same time on providing software updates has mostly pleased existing customers and massively intrigued potential buyers who want the tech extravaganza to continue long after the paint has dulled over.
