BYD eMAX 7 provides smooth electric driving experience. The screen rotation is a neat party trick for friends. Rear AC vents work well to maintain cooling. However, the user interface menu design is complex to understand initially, took me days to find specific settings. Showroom reach is limited in my tier two city, so service requires long distance travel.

Small trunk utility

Level 2 ADAS active safety package works decently on well marked national highways. However, the 180 liters trunk capacity is too small for a family holiday trip unless you fold down the last row seats completely. The light colored leatherette upholstery gets dirty very quickly and requires frequent deep dry cleaning service.

Sluggish system software

Car body panel build quality is sturdy and doors close securely. But the infotainment system software takes considerable time to boot up when starting the car, and wireless phone connectivity fails occasionally. The factory fitted tires lack optimal grip on wet monsoon tarmac roads, causing minor traction slip.

High floor seating posture

The low running cost of electric powertrain saves significant money for high monthly mileage users. But the high cabin floor due to battery placement creates a knees up sitting posture in middle and last row, causing thigh discomfort during journeys longer than two hours. The audio system sound output lacks depth.

Complicated touch control

Vehicle delivers linear power acceleration without lag. My main irritation is that there are no physical buttons for regular air conditioning climate controls or fan speed adjustments, you have to click through multiple screen menus which is distracting. The steering wheel audio control buttons feel fragile.

Firm seats short range

The BYD eMAX 7 has strong headlamps performance at night hours. However, the seat cushions feel a bit too firm and stiff for back comfort on day long drives. The real world driving range drops fast if you maintain speeds above hundred kmph on highway, requiring more frequent charging halts than expected.

Average interior plastics

The rotating large touch screen looks impressive at first glance, but the plastic quality used on lower half of dashboard and door cards feels cheap for a car costing nearly 30 lakhs. The wireless charging pad charges very slowly and makes my premium smartphone quite warm. The boot space is non existent when all seven seats are occupied.

Practical smart electric

The overall cabin utility with multiple storage slots and deep glovebox is very good for long family outings. The automatic climate control system maintains chosen temperatures accurately. The brake pedal feel is a bit spongy initially due to regenerative motor integration crossover. The tyre pressure display warning is clear.

Low clearance is issue

Motor performance is smooth and silent during daily drives. However, the low unladen ground clearance of 170mm is a regular problem on high speed breakers because the car bottom easily touches when carrying six people. The dealership service support network is limited across small towns, making maintenance accessibility a concern.

Planted high speed ride

Heavy battery floor placement provides excellent high speed highway manners and minimal crosswind impact. The LED daylight running lamps have unique signatures. The driver seat ventilation function works effectively. The infotainment system home page configuration options are quite limited and complex for standard users.

Good car but tight space

BYD eMAX 7 offers decent electric range of 430 km in actual city usage conditions, but the third row seating space is very cramped for grown adults on longer duration road trips. The suspension feels quite firm over regular city road potholes, transferring shocks directly into cabin. The infotainment system interface layout is confusing to operate while driving.
