NEW DELHI :

With electric cars beginning to make inroads in India, many have been questioning the impact of electric batteries - their use and safe disposal - on the environment. To this regard, MG Motor has tied up with Exicom for batteries to be reused once their regular life cycles are over.

MG is all set to launch ZS EV, its first electric offering in India, and announced on Tuesday that it has tied up with Exicom for the car's batteries to be re-used at the end of their regular life cycle. "Under the partnership, Exicom plans to re-deploy MG ZS EV batteries at the end of their useful life with the car and put them through a controlled process of evaluation, disassembly, and repackaging to design custom battery packs for non-automotive applications," a statement from MG read.

Through this partnership, MG is seeking to dispel reservations around the disposal of used EV batteries. It claims that through Exicom, the company can ensure that the batteries used do not end up at landfills once their life cycle is over. "Our latest partnership focuses on second-life applications for used EV battery packs, to ensure environment-friendly battery disposal will only serve to bolster the country’s progress towards this critical objective," says Rajeev Chaba, President & MD, MG Motor India.
