Skoda to launch rival to Creta SUV in India by 2021

Skoda has big plans for India courtesy big cars. The Czech company has been eyeing the mid-size SUV segment for some time now considering how successful the likes of Kia and MG Hector have been and now, has confirmed it will have its own offering by mid 2021.

Skoda India's Zac Hollis recently confirmed that the company is looking at bringing in a mid-size SUV to challenge the new-found might of Seltos, Hector and the much-acclaimed Creta from Hyundai.

Likely to be called Kamiq, the SUV is expected to be built on the MQB A0 IN platform and will be around 4.3 meters in length - much like the international version of the car.

The SUV, however, could have some changes from the Kamiq available abroad. This is likely in subtle changes to the design on the outside, inside and in terms of a longer wheelbase.

Skoda is likely to give the SUV a clean profile on the inside but is expected to keep it feature-loaded to match up to what the rivals offer.

Skoda's entry into this segment could light up an already blazing fire as there is quite a demand for cars that fall into this category. While new players like Kia and MG have hit the mark straight off the bat, veterans like Hyundai are planning to strike back. The Koreans would be driving in the 2020 Creta with significant design and feature upgrades while a number of other players are readying products for this and the sub-compact SUV segment as well.
