NEW DELHI :
Maruti Suzuki on Thursday announced that it has sold 6.5 lakh units of the Baleno hatchback since its launch in India in 2015.
The Baleno has been a strong success story for India's largest automaker and has received several updates in the past four years - the most recent coming in January of 2019 when a smart hybrid version was launch. In its most-recent update, the Baleno was also the country's first BS 6-complaint hatchback. “Baleno since inception has been a leader. Retailed from our premium channel NEXA, Baleno attracted new set of customers to Maruti Suzuki family," said Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki. "Continuous alignment with our customer’s expectations and desires along with periodic technological upgrades has kept Baleno ahead of the curve."
Baleno has been a firm favourite in the hatchback segment and is powered by 1.2-litre petrol motor that belts out 84bhp of power. There is also a 1.3 diesel engine on offer but only the petrol has CVT as an option.
The Baleno has the Elite i20 from Hyundai as its direct rival. In the coming months, it may have to fend off a strong attack from Tata Motors' Altroz.
