Nissan Motor India has registered a decent performance in December of 2019 with a 49% month-on-month growth in domestic sales figures and exporting 10,791 units - the company's highest ever monthly shipment in five years.

Nissan said in a press statement that the Kicks SUV was the core of the domestic sales figures for the company in the month of December of 2019. This, coupled with bolstered exports, made for a respectable end to what has otherwise been an extremely challenging year for the Indian auto industry as a whole. "Domestic volume increase of 49% month on month with improved performance of KICKS showcases the strength of Nissan’s global SUV DNA," said Rakesh Srivastava, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India. "Exports in December are the highest-ever single month shipment in the last five years, highlighting a strong thrust on Make in India."

Nissan had brought in Kicks at the start of 2019 and while there was some buzz in the immediate aftermath of the launch, the car largely failed to rake up numbers due to a number of reasons ranging from stiff competition to an overall low-buying sentiment in the market. Nissan also offered a number of year-end discounts and offers on the car which may have resulted in more footfall at its showrooms across the country.

Apart from Kicks, Nissan product portfolio in India includes Micra, Sunny, Terrano and the GT-R. The company in India has a portfolio of two brands, Nissan and Datsun.
