MG ZS EV gets a launch date, prepares to lock horns with Hyundai Kona
Morris Garage has been working overtime to create a buzz around the ZS EV in India, its second offering here after the successful Hector which was launched in 2019. After unveiling the ZS EV in December, the company is now ready for the final round and will officially launch the car on January 27 with all eyes - and ears - expected to keenly follow the update on pricing.
The ZS EV is a bold charge into the nascent India electric mobility space and will have Hyundai's Kona as its main rival. The car is powered by a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery which promises a range of 340 kilometers on a single charge and it can be powered from zero to 80% in 50 minutes using a DC charger. In the HT Auto drive review, the ZS EV performed especially well in the aspects of silent operation and acceleration while MG is also claiming to be working on providing a supporting infrastructure to enhance the ownership experience.

At 4314mm, 1809mm, 1620mm (LxWxH), the ZS EV has an SUV proportion in terms of visual appeal and how it stands but what could decide its fate would be how well its priced and the perception towards electric mobility. Kona is the only reference point - in terms of pricing - that the ZS EV could be pitched again and there are indications that the lower of the two variant from the MG offering could get an ex showroom price of ₹24 lakhs. The Kona is priced at ₹23.50 lakh (ex showroom).
