The Hummer, which was first marketed in 1992 and then pulled out from the market in 2008 following questions over its viability after the economic slowdown, is making a comeback, albeit with some 'thunderous' modifications.

General Motors, on January 30, released a short teaser to announce the comeback of the Hummer, but in the electric vehicle category.

The 30-second Super Bowl ad featured NBA superstar LeBron James and highlighted the name of the vehicle as an electric pickup truck model - GMC Hummer EV.

In the teaser video, the American carmaker showcased the wide front facade of the electric Hummer, calling it a 'Quiet Revolution.'

Going by the trailer, the new Hummer has received a six-slat grille, similar to the H2 and H3. The car appears to be sporting square LED headlamps and there are illuminating devices running throughout the grille.

The GMC logo is visible lower down on the bumper along with a rugged skid plate.

According to the company website, the first-ever GMC Hummer EV, which will be revealed on March 20, will have 'zero emissions and zero limits’ with up to 1,000 horsepower, 11,500 pounds of torque and accelerate from 0-60 mph in just three seconds.

According to a statement released by General Motors President Mark Reuss, the GMC Hummer EV along with subsequent models will have the following features:

• Highly advanced batteries developed at their battery lab in Warren, Michigan.

• A battery-electric chassis that provides optimal range, ride, and handling.

• New digital vehicle platform that provides the bandwidth and connectivity to support most sophisticated electric propulsion systems and active safety systems.

The EV SUV will be built at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. GM has recently invested USD 2.2 billion in the plant.

GM President Mark Reuss added in his statement that while the GMC Hummer EV is their first entry into the electric vehicle market, they will soon offer, not just one pickup “but multiple models with multiple variants, for multiple customers."
