Piaggio showcases SXR160 under the Aprilia brand at Auto Expo 2020

The covers came off the much-awaited SXR160 scooter from Piaggio under the Aprilia brand at Auto Expo 2020 on Thursday.

A stunner to look at, the visual appeal of the stylish SXR160 is enhanced by generous additions of chrome to the body panels. The scooter also gets sharp DRLs along with LED head lights, arrow-like character lines, semi-digital instrument console, luxury seats, ample storage space in the front inside fascia, ABS and is offered in four colour options - blur, red, black and white. There is also an option for charging phones with a port integrated to the body, an integrated dark fly screen.

The twin-LED set up on the SXR160 gives the scooter a sharp front profile.

With the premium scooter segment in mind, the SXR160 sits on 12-inch alloys and gets disc brakes on both wheels. It is offered in two engine options - 160 cc and 125 cc. There is no word on the mileage yet but the engines are BS 6 compliant.

The scooter will be manufactured at the Aprilia facility in Baramati and the company says that while it has been designed in Italy, it is made keeping the Indian market in mind. Bookings for the SXR160 will begin from August and deliveries will start from Q3.

Piaggio also took the opportunity to showcase its intent in the electric mobility segment and showcased the Vespa Electrica. It has a 100-km range on a single charge and takes 4 hours on fast charging to return to full power. gets two riding modes - Eco and Power, and gets a reverse gear too.

Piaggio has a renewed focus on the Indian market and while it may not be in the game for volumes, the company is looking at targeting a niche audience through products it says are not just stylish but practical and capable as well. Production in India means that pricing may be kept in check because of localisation.
