Here is why Hyundai Kona Electric has made its way into the Guinness Records

Hyundai Motor India has made it to the Guinness Book of World Records. Hyundai Kona, the first ‘Made in India’ fully electric SUV,reached an altitude of 5,731 meters to Sawula Pass in Tibet, a height never achieved by any electric car before.

Hyundai Kona broke the previous record of5,715.28meters altitude by any electric car.

During the expedition, the Hyundai Kona tackled harsh weather conditions like low temperatures, continuous snowfall and icy tarmacs. The Kona, launched in India last year, is powered by a battery pack of 39.2kWh. It can reach peak torque at 395 Nm and can go up to 450 kilometers in a single charge.

During the entire drive duration, the Kona was charged through the convenient portable chargers. The car was charged overnight with the standard portable charger provided along with the vehicle.


Rishi Nath, Adjudicator, Guinness World Records said,“A new precedent has been set for the record as – Highest Altitude reached in an electric car. I would like to congratulate Hyundai Motor India for having achieved this and setting new benchmark in the annals of history."

Commenting on this remarkable achievement, SS Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India said, “Under the Emission Impossible Mission, Kona Electric has proved its mettle in the world’s toughest terrains without compromising its performance."

He added, “To avoid any range anxiety; customers will be provided with two chargers along with the car – A portable charger and an AC Wall Box Charger.Additionally, in select cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai) aSpecial Kona Electric fleet (Kona Electric to Kona Electric) fitted with power converter is providing emergency charging supportto the customers. For customer convenience, all Hyundai Kona Electric selling dealerships are equipped with 7.2 kW AC Charger to support customers for Kona Electric Charging."

Hyundai Kona is compatible with a wide variety of charging units and can be charged upto 80% in just 57 minutes.
