Hyundai Aura engine details revealed, to get turbo-charged petrol option
- Hyundai has already begun testing Aura on Indian roads for its suitability and performance in varied conditions.
NEW DELHI : Hyundai is gearing up for its next big-ticket launch and all eyes are firmly set on the Aura to rev up the sedan segment in India once again. While the Aura is an upgrade of the Xcent, the new car will bring about a host of changes with upgrades in the engine at its very core.
In a statement on Wednesday, Hyundai informed that the Aura will be powered by BS 6-complaint petrol as well as diesel engines. Even more notably, the company said that Aura will also have a turbo-charged petrol engine option to choose from. This would make it the first sedan in the country with such an engine.

Hyundai claims that the Aura will offer better fuel efficiency, low vibration, superior performance and cleaner emissions compared to the outgoing Xcent. The car, says the company, will have an advanced NOx trap catalyst and PM filters to bring down environmental pollution and 'optimise After Treatment System performance'.
Engine options on the Aura:
Petrol - 1.2 Kappa Dual VTVT/1.0 Turbo GDi
Diesel - 1.2 U2 CRDi
Transmission options on the Aura:
Petrol - 5MT/AT on 1.2 Kappa Dual VTVT engine option/5MT on 1.0 Turbo GDi engine option
Diesel - 5MT/AT
The Aura is expected to get a number of design upgrades to give it a distinct look and appeal. On the inside, the car can borrow certain features like touchscreen and wireless charging from the Grand i10 NIOS.
Aura will go head on against Maruti Suzuki's Dzire as well as Honda Amaze, VW Ameo and Ford Aspire.
