Hyundai launches Aura compact sedan to take on Maruti Dzire and Honda Amaze
- Aura from Hyundai brings a breath of fresh air into the compact sedan segment in India which also features Dzire from Maruti Suzuki and Amaze from Honda.

Hyundai Motors India on Tuesday officially launched the much-awaited compact sedan Aura at a starting price of ₹5.79 lakh (ex showroom) for the E variant of 1.2 litre petrol with manual transmission, going up to ₹9.22 lakh for the diesel SX (+) automatic variant. The Aura, available in three BS 6-compliant engine options, will lock horns with Dzire from Maruti Suzuki and Honda Amaze.

Aura is positioned as a premium offering and while it is a successor to the Xcent, it won't eat into its space because the latter is targeted at fleet services. The Aura, instead, will focus attention on personal buyers looking for novelty in the compact sedan segment's design language and a feature-packed cabin.

Being a Hyundai, the Aura has been packed to the brim with convenience and creature comforts with as many as 14 segment firsts. This includes wireless charger, driver rear view mirror, outside door handle chrome, leather-wrapped gear knob, eco coating, emergency stop signal, air curtain, iBlue Audio Remote phone app, Arkamys' four mode sound, headlamp welcome/escort, driver rear view monitor and USB charger. There is also a 13.46 digital speedometer and MUI display.


In terms of design, the Aura has takes certain elements from the Grand i10 Nios and gets twin boomerang DRLs with a satin front grille, projector head lights and fog lamps. From the side, there is an emphasis on a coupe-like shape and the Aura gets imposing wheel arches and R15 diamond-cut alloy wheels. On the rear, the car has been given a deliberate wide-stand appeal and features LED tail lamps, chrome strip and glossy black wrap around.


Hyundai Aura is now the only sub-compact sedan with a BS 6-compliant diesel engine. It gets a 1.2 l BS-6 ECOTORQ motor which is more fuel efficient. In addition, there are also the Kappa 1.0 I BS 6 T-GDI Petrol (Turbo), 1.2 l MPI BS-6 Petrol options. There is also an option of factory-fitted CNG.

Aura stands 3,995 mm in length, 1,680 mm in width and 1,520 mm in height. There also is 402 liters of boot space.
Hyundai says the Aura will be offered with 4 Years /50,000 kms or 5 Years /40,000 kms along with Road-Side Assistance.
