Skoda has had its back to the wall in India for some time now with most of its offerings here failing to corner much traction in the market. With established rivals as well as several new players dominating the field of play, the Czech manufacturer plans to hit big and introduce five new and updated cars in 2020.
The decision to bring in the cars was made by Zac Hollis Director - Sales, Service and Marketing, Skoda Auto India, on Twitter on Tuesday. "So here we are first day back in the office and a big year ahead for Skoda in India with 5 new or updated models to be launched this year. As always you will get the first news here," he wrote on his feed.
Skoda currently offers Rapid, Octavia, Superb and Kodiaq in India, and the company has already confirmed bringing in Octava vRS 245 at the Auto Expo 2020 in February. Karoq SUV too will make its way into India to compete in the extremely competitive mid-size SUV segment that is currently features vehicles ranging from MG Hector and Kia Seltos to Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson.
The updated Superb too is expected in India around May while the Kodiaq RS may be brought at some time late 2020. The 2020 edition of Rapid may also get an India entry.
Skoda will also showcase a 'Made for India' concept compact SUV that could take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Ford Ecosport.
