Harley-Davidson has confirmed plans to revive the iconic Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 as part of its broader entry-level motorcycle expansion strategy. The announcement was made alongside the company’s first-quarter financial results, where Harley-Davidson outlined efforts to make the brand more accessible to a wider range of riders through its ‘Back to the Bricks’ initiative.
The returning Sportster is expected to revive the traditional air-cooled V-twin cruiser formula that defined earlier generations of the motorcycle. Preview sketches released by the brand point towards a design closely inspired by the earlier Iron 883, featuring a low-slung stance, minimal bodywork, and classic cruiser proportions.
Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 Price
The revived Sportster 883 is expected to carry a starting price of around $10,000 internationally, translating to approximately ₹9.43 lakh. Final India pricing, if launched locally, will depend on localisation strategy and import structure.
Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 Engine and Performance
The upcoming Sportster 883 is likely to be powered by an 883cc air-cooled Evolution V-twin engine. This engine configuration was previously discontinued globally in 2022 due to tightening emission norms but is now expected to return in an updated form.
The motor historically produced around 50–54 hp, with torque figures ranging between 53 Nm and 69 Nm, delivered at relatively low engine speeds for relaxed cruising characteristics. The engine is expected to retain the brand’s traditional V-twin feel and long-stroke performance delivery focused on low-end torque.

The earlier-generation Sportster 883 measured approximately 2,245 mm in length and 820 mm in width, while featuring a wheelbase of around 1,510 mm. Kerb weight ranged between 251 kg and 260 kg depending on the variant.
The motorcycle used a 39 mm telescopic front fork paired with dual rear shock absorbers. Braking duties were handled by disc brakes at both ends. The low seat height, positioned between 25 and 27 inches, contributed to its accessibility for a wide range of riders.

The teaser sketches suggest that Harley-Davidson is focusing on bringing back a more traditional cruiser interpretation of the Sportster lineup. The motorcycle retains hallmark styling elements such as a teardrop fuel tank, upright handlebar setup, minimal side panels, and a compact rear section.
