MG Astor bookings begin for 2022: Know all the details

MG Motor India is witnessing a phenomenal response with its latest offering Astor SUV. Touted as India's first artificial intelligence-enabled car, the MG Astor's booking commenced on October 21 and the car was sold out within just 20 minutes. Now the British car brand has opened priority bookings for 2022.

Interested consumers can book the Astor SUV for 2022 through the automaker's official website or by visiting any authorized dealership, said MG in an official statement. When introduced, MG claimed that it aims to deliver 5,000 units of the Astor SUV in 2021.

Commenting on the car's phenomenal consumer response, Rajeev Chaba, president and MD, MG Motor India, said that the automaker is ecstatic about the response it has received from the customers. "Given the global chip crisis that the industry is undergoing, we can only supply a limited number of cars this year. We expect supplies to become better from Q1 next year," he further added.

MG Astor comes as the fifth model from MG Motor India after Hector, Hector Plus, ZS EV and Gloster. The SUV is priced from ₹9.78 lakh (ex-showroom).

MG Astor delivery

MG Motor India plans to deliver 5,000 units of Astor SUV this year. Deliveries for the first batch of Astor SUVs will commence from November this year. However, from next year onwards, the automaker plans to increase the delivery numbers. The ongoing microchip crisis can play a crucial role in MG Astor's sales plan.

MG Astor SUV will compete with rivals such as Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.

MG Astor variants

MG Astor SUV is available in four different variants - Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. There is a Sharp (O) variant as well, which sits on top of the lineup. It comes equipped with an advanced driver assistant system (ADAS) comprising Level 2 autonomy. Overall, the car is available in 11 trim options.

MG Astor key features

MG Astor comes as a feature-loaded SUV. As the British car brand claims, the SUV gets a host of class-leading features. One of them is Artificial Intelligence. MG touts the SUV as India's first AI-enabled car.

For a wide range of connectivity features, the carmaker has joined hands with Jio to offer IoT solutions. It gets real-time connectivity for infotainment, telematics, music streaming etc. Astor buyers will get a four GB monthly internet pack, which can be expanded up to 14 GB at additional cost.

MG Astor engine and transmission

MG Astor SUV comes with a choice of two engines. There is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a VTI-tech CVT transmission. This engine is capable of producing 110 PS of power and 144 Nm of peak torque.

The second choice of engine is a 1.3-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol motor paired with a six-speed automatic torque converter gearbox. This engine can churn out 140 PS of power and 220 Nm of peak torque.
