After launching the all-electric Kona earlier in 2019, Hyundai has underlined its commitment towards cleaner technology and has announced it has started a feasibility study to judge if fuel cell electric vehicles can be brought to Indian shores.

Highlighting how fuel cell electric vehicles are free from any greenhouse gasses emissions because the vehicle filters and purifies the air during its drive, Hyundai claims that 99.9 per cent of particulates are purified. "We have initiated the feasibility study for fuel cell electric vehicle in India and promise to bring the ultimate solution with zero emission mobility," said Hyundai's S S Kim. "As a technology and innovation driven brand, Hyundai is aligned and committed to embark on the journey of India’s future mobility."

While the electric mobility set up in India has been extremely limited so far, it does stand on the cusp of a massive and rapid expansion with several manufacturers looking at offering electric options. While the Kona was a start for Hyundai, MG Motor too recently unveiled ZS EV which would be launched in January. Several other companies like Maruti, Mahindra and Tata Motors are also gearing up to jump the bandwagon.

As far as infrastructure is concerned, a lot remains to be done while pricing of electric vehicles too remains a concern.
