Voxan intros world's most powerful all-electric motorcycle

Motorcycle maker Voxan, established in 1995 as the first French motorcycle maker, ceased production in 2009 due to failure to compete against imports made by well-established competitors. But at the Paris Motorcycle Show this week, the company made an impressive comeback with the world premiere of the Wattman: an ultra-powerful all-electric motorcycle. Designed by Sacha Lakic, the bike represents a new start for the company purchased in 2010 by Venturi Automobiles.

The innovative Wattman could be the product that takes Voxan on to a brighter, more eco-friendly and more profitable future. Presented in great fanfare at the Paris Motor Show, the motorcycle is based on a 200-hp electric motor, for a top speed of 170km/h, 0 to 100km/h acceleration in 3.4s and 0 to 160km/h in just 5.9s.

The 12.8kWh battery, which gives the Wattman a range of 180km, charges to 80 percent capacity in less than 30 minutes through a fast charger using a DC Combo 2 connector. It is also possible, though of course slower, to charge the battery through a standard power outlet.

'The idea is to make electric technology sexy,' said Sacha Lakic. 'Electric energy is used here as a source of fun. This machine is built for bikers, and above all else, it is built for driving.'

This new motorcycle will not be available for another 18 to 24 months, and each model will be built upon order, for a yet unknown price.
