Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India, said that he expects the S-CNG version of Alto to also fare well in the Indian market. "With the introduction of Alto BS6 S-CNG, we reinforce our efforts towards sustainable green mobility. The Alto BS6 S-CNG is designed to deliver optimum performance, safety, engine durability, convenience, and mileage," he said in a statement issued by Maruti. "We are encouraged with wide acceptance of S-CNG technology by our customers."

The Alto is already compatible with BS 6 emission norms that will kick in from April 1 and Maruti said it had sold over 100,000 BS 6 Alto units already. Overall, the company has sold 38 lakh units of Alto since it was first launched back in 2000.

What has helped Alto not just stay relevant but lead the charts has been Maruti Suzuki's decisions to regularly upgrade the design and technology of and in the car. It also does not cut corners when it comes to safety and has driver-side air bags as standard while is the only car in its segment to offer passenger airbag as an option from base variant onwards.

In its S-CNG version, the car starts at 4.32 lakh (ex showroom, Delhi) for the LXi variant and at 4.36 lakh (ex showroom, Delhi) for the LXi (O) variant.
