Volvo brings in XC40 T4 R-Design SUV at ₹39.9 lakh

Volvo on Friday announced the launch of XC40 T4 R-Design SUV at a starting price point of ₹39.9 lakh (ex showroom). The car is in petrol variant as, according to the company, customers are increasingly preferring the gasoline option in the country.

Touting the XC40 as an 'embodiment of modern Scandinavian styling', Volvo says that it has given it sporty and dynamic design hues. The SUV gets Volvo's trademark Thor's hammer head lights in a different rendition, a unique tail-lamp cluster and a sculpted exterior in 2-tone colour scheme. The car stands on smart diamond-cut alloy wheels and gets a power tail gate.

Known for standing out for its safety features on offer, Volvo has ensured that the XC40 is packed to brim in this department as well. The SUV is the first in its segment to get radar-based City Safety with Steering Assist. Active at speeds up to 50 kmph, it seeks to avoid collision from other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. There is Adaptive Cruise Control which lets the XC40 maintain a safe distance from objects in front while other features like On-coming lane Mitigation, Driver Alerts, Run-off Road protection and roll stability control also highlight the plethora of safety additions here.

The XC40 is available in the R-Design trim with a two litre four-Cylinder T4 petrol variant producing 190 hp and 300Nm of peak torque. While this meets BS 6 emission norms set to come into effect from April 1 of 2020, there is also an eight-speed Geartronic gearbox to assist with the FWD system in place.

On the inside, the XC40 gets leather seats, woofer inside dashboard for better acoustics, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging for phones, two-zone climate control, 12.3 inch instrumentation cluster, and rear and front park assist pilot.

Volvo is confident XC40 will find many takers thanks to its looks, features, performance and safety features. "The XC40 T4 R-Design is our first petrol offering in the entry-level SUV segment," said Charles Frump, Managing Director, Volvo Car India. "We are conscious of the customer’s preferences in features and made this entry level variant fully loaded."
