Mercedes rolls up sleeves to bring in slew of new models in India in 2020

NEW DELHI :

Mercedes Benz plans to bet big in India in 2020 and is gearing up to launch a number of new car models here in the year. The country's largest luxury automaker, last year, had celebrated 25 years of producing cars in India and appears determined to remain at the pinnacle courtesy its new offerings.

First off the bat would be the new GLE which is expected to be brought in later in January. To be offered in both petrol - 367 hp, 3.0 motor, and diesel - 245hp, 2.0 motor, the GLE competes with Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 and the BMW X5 in India.

The new GLS too may be brought into India and may get a 367hp, 3.0-litre turbo-petrol motor and a 330hp, 3.0-litre turbo-diesel as options. The SUV competes with Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90.

Mercedes gave an insight into its product lineup for 2020 in India in a video posted on its official Twitter handle. The video also hinted at the possible launch of a GLE Coupe. The German automaker may also bring in the A-Class and the GLB SUV and the face lift version of the E-Class.

Apart from product launches, Mercedes is also ramping up its outreach program to prospective and existing buyers. Promising attractive financing options, the company started its 'Premiere Express Prime' in December of 2019.
