Diesel vehicles costlier from next wk
From next week, get ready to pay more for diesel-run cars.
The Delhi government is likely to notify increased registration tax on diesel vehicles — cars and commercial vehicles — next week. The buyer will have to pay 25% of the existing tax rate on diesel-run vehicles specified in schedule-I of the Motor Vehicle Taxation Act, 2004.

"We will notify the new tax rates anytime next week," a transport official said. Department officials said the tax hike is to discourage people from buying luxury cars that run on subsidised fuel. Officials also believe diesel vehicles cause more pollution.
Of 1,000-1,200 cars sold in the Capital every day, diesel cars constitute about 40%. Delhi will be the only state in the country to have a different tax structure for petrol and diesel cars.
