Nissan lndia on Friday launched a facelift model of its hatchback Micra starting at 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), with a few cosmetic changes and several technological upgrades.

The new Micra comes with segment-first features such as automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and "Lead-me-to-Car" that helps the driver locate and find his car using a smart key. However, it misses out on a touchscreen infotainment -- something common in this segment of cars.

The new Micra gets the same 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a X-tronic CVT automatic transmission and the 1.5-litre diesel mill paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. So there's no manual petrol or a AT/CVT diesel here either.

The ARAI-tested mileage of the new Micra is 19.34kmpl (Petrol) and 23.08 kmpl (Diesel).

"Micra is a 35-year-old badge first launched in 1982. It's gone through facelifts in 1992, 2002, 2010 and 2013," Nissan Motor India MD Arun Mehrotra said at the launch on Friday.

"It was also Nissan's first made-in-India car launched in July 2010," he added.

Nissan Motor Co Ltd of Japan incorporated Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd in 2005. The carmaker shares a plant with its French partner Renault and has exported more than seven lakh Nissan cars to 106-plus markets globally till date.

"If you really need to make in India, you need to cover the entire value chain - from R&D, design, manufacturing, sales in this market and exports. That's Nissan's commitment to India," Mehrotra said.

The new Nissan Micro is, however, disappointing on fronts where its rivals excel like several features like touchscreen infotainment and updated looks.
