The American manufacturer has said it will launch 12 new sports cars before 2020 through Ford Performance, the new global brand that unifies all of Ford's previous performance-focused divisions: SVT (Special Vehicle Team) in North America, Team RS in Europe, and Ford Racing.
According to Dave Pericak, who will head up the division, Ford Performance will serve as an 'innovation laboratory and test bed to create unique performance vehicles, parts, accessories, and experiences for customers.' Prior to his new role, Pericak was chief engineer on the Mustang, the 2015 version of which will soon be released in Europe.
The story of the RS label began in 1968 with the Ford 15M RS, which debuted in Germany, followed by the Escort RS1600 two years later. The first-generation Focus RS was introduced in 2002.
