Automobile manufacturers are using the latest technologies to make their vehicles more efficient compared to their competitors in the market.

Car makers are also providing all the necessary comfort to their customers so that they have a wonderful driving experience. Maruti Suzuki is one such automobile manufacturer, which is providing Automatic Gear Shift (AGS) technology as well as Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) and Automatic Transmission (AT) options.

Driving becomes all the more comfortable with the absence of a clutch pedal. Also, there is no need to shift gears. These features make Maruti Suzuki cars more fuel efficient and are most preferred in India.

If you are looking forward to buying any of the variants of Maruti Suzuki and want to know what exactly are AGS, CVT and AT and how there are different, then read below:

Auto Gear Shift:Introduced by Maruti Suzuki in 2014, Auto Gear Shift, or AGS technology, controls the operation of the clutch and the gear shifts automatically. This makes the driving experience easier for the person on the wheel. The system uses Intelligent Shift Control Actuator, an electric hydraulic actuator. It also enables drivers to get the experience of latest two-pedal technology.

AGS allows synchronized control over the clutch, shifting, and engine making gear changes smoother. It brings together the advantages of both manual and automatic transmissions.

With AGS technology, drivers can switch between Automatic and Manual modes with just a shift of the gear lever.

AGS options are available on Maruti Suzuki cars such as Alto K-10, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Dzire and Vitara Brezza.

Continuously Variable Transmission:Vehicle owners can operate cars with CVT in the similar way to a normal automatic transmission. However, the inner workings are way different. CVT is the clutch-less gearbox and works on pulleys which are connected to a belt or chain and provides seamless performance without shift and shock, when accelerating and decelerating.

The hydraulic setup functions with the help of Transmission Electronic Controller Unit to get the multiple speed ratios.

It helps improve the fuel mileage on the vehicle. CVT is often coupled with paddle shifters making shifting or changing of gear all the more swift.

The CVT option is available on Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

Automatic Transmission:The automated gearbox can switch gear ratios by itself as the vehicle moves, making it convenient for drivers to change gears manually. It offers hill assist function too.

Automatic Transmission technology uses three major components:

Planetary Gear System - It enables to achieve difference in vehicle speed for varied driving requirements

Torque converter or hydraulic coupling - It helps transfer power from engine to transmission

Hydraulic Controls: Helps manage the operation of the wet clutches.

The AT is available on Maruti Suzuki vehicles -- Ertiga, Ciaz and XL6.
