2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz pick-up truck made its global debut on April 15.

Hyundai's North American division has unveiled the first details about the brand's new offering - the Santa Cruz pickup - on Thursday, April 15. Hyundai says the Santa Cruz has been designed as a lifestyle vehicle for urban enthusiasts who often go out of town in search of new adventures.

Here are 10 things that you should know about the latest Hyundai offering.

1

Hyundai is not keen to position the new Santa Cruz as a pick-up truck. The Korean carmaker says the car is more of a Sport Adventure Vehicle or SAV. It went a step further and defined the Santa Cruz as a model that breaks the standards of both SUVs and pickups, creating an entirely new segment. The vehicle is based on the Hyundai Santa Cruz concept which was first showcased at the Detroit Motor Show six years ago.

2

Hyundai says that the Santa Cruz has sophisticated design, high-performance range of powertrains, including electrified versions, internet connectivity, cargo compartment with modular load securing system and intelligent four-wheel drive system.

3

The Santa Cruz is built on the same unibody platform on which the fourth generation Hyundai Tucson SUV is based on. The Santa Cruz stands 4,970 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width and a wheelbase of 3,005 mm.

As far as the design is concerned, there are lot of similarities between the Santa Cruz and the new generation Tucson, especially at the front. Santa Cruz gets similar parametric jewel pattern grille which have thin LED headlights. But the horizontal T-shaped LED tail lights are slightly different on Tucson.

The Santa Cruz will stand on either 18-inch or optional 20-inch alloy wheels. The wheelbase of the four-door pickup is 3,005 mm. It comes with front or four wheel drive with the same HTRAC control unit used in the fourth generation Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs.

6

The Santa Cruz is equipped with 2.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine which claims to churn out more than 190 horsepower and around 245 Newton-meters of peak torque. There is also an optional turbocharged engine that can produce around 275 hp of power and 420 Nm of peak torque. It also has a towing capacity of around 1,500 kilograms.

7

Both engines offered in the new Santa Cruz are mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that includes shift paddles located on the steering wheel for manual gear shifting.

8

The cabin of the Santa Cruz can offer comfort similar to that of an SUV, but the rear passengers may find it a little uncomfortable with visibly less legroom and the seats in an upright position. The rear seats also fold down to reveal storage cubicles beneath them.

9

The Santa Cruz comes with an 8-inch infotainment screen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Customers can also choose to upgrade to a 10-inch screen. It also gets a 10-inch fully digital instrument cluster.
