New tests for 2014 : For the first time ever, EuroNCAP safety testing was updated to include the effectiveness of active safety technologies, such as autonomous emergency braking and other features that are designed to help drivers avoid having an accident, as well as the usual structural rigidity tests carried out by assessing the damage caused by a head-on and side-on impact at speed. Safest small off-road 4x4: the Land Rover Discovery Sport : Euro NCAP's Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen, said of the results: 'We congratulate those manufacturers whose cars are in our Best in Class list for last year. It shows a commitment to offer the highest levels of safety, which, nowadays, means active accident prevention as well as top-rate crash protection.
