If you like the look of Mercedes' latest super coupé, the Mercedes-AMG GT, but wished that it had more seats, doors and luggage space so that it could be used every day, there's good news.

With the new Mercedes-AMG C 63, unveiled on Wednesday ahead of the Paris Motor Show in October, the company has taken its flagship supercar's performance and creature comforts and distilled them into both a mid-sized four-door sedan and an estate car.

That means comfortable seats for five, great all-round visibility, room for shopping and suitcases (and a large dog too, if plumping for the estate) and a minimum of 476hp, 650Nn of torque and a 0-100km/h (62mph) time of 4.1 seconds waiting to be unleashed by your right foot.

And that 'minimum' is an important term because those figures refer to the 'standard' Mercedes-AMG C 63. The C 63 S cranks things up even further. Its bi-turbo V8 engine offers 510hp, 700Nm of torque and a 0-100km/h time of 4 seconds when fitted to the sedan. The estate is a bit less aerodynamic so that acceleration time is ever so slightly longer (4.1 seconds).

The model also comes as a four-door sedan. Photo:AFP

But if you have an extra one-tenth of a second to spare, then the estate version really could be the car for all seasons and all reasons particularly as its closest true competitor, the M3 built by BMW, is offered as a sedan and a coupé (badged M4), but is not currently available in estate form.

As well as some serious tinkering with the car's underpinnings and suspension, Mercedes has also turned its attention to the interior, making the seats deeper and more cosseting to help your posterior handle the power while a smaller steering wheel will also help keep the car in check at higher speeds.

However, thanks to a truly comprehensive range of options the car can be dressed up to be as luxurious as it is fast. The new car should also be cheaper to run as it's somehow capable of returning a fuel economy of 33.6mpg even in 'S' estate form.

The C 63 will make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show in October and will be going on sale in Europe before the end of the year. Mercedes is also expected to add a coupé and a convertible version to the range in early 2015 and there are whispers that a four-wheel drive version might be coming to some left-hand-drive countries in the future, too.
