The VW-owned Spanish car-maker is heading to this year's event with a radical concept car.

The Cupster is so radical in fact, that it doesn't appear to have any sort of rood at all, whatsoever.

Based on the Ibiza Cupra and keeping the same 180PS turbocharged engine and paddle-shift transmission, the Cupster is what would traditionally be described as a speedster, in other words, one step beyond a convertible (or roadster).

So as well as lopping off the hard top, the windshield has also been ditched in favor of a low-profile, wraparound tinted strip of glass and the side windows have been cut back to match, just like a true open-top racing car of old.

Ensuring the driver's hair stays in place, the seats are 80mm closer to the ground to improve road feel and cut down on the wind blowing around the cabin and in occupants' faces.

And, to help make the car even better on the track and look even more intimidating in someone's rearview mirror, it is lower and wider than a standard Ibiza and of course it is a bright, almost radioactive orange -- a special finish developed especially for the car.

The Cupster will make its official debut later this month at the 2014 Wörthersee Treffen, the annual gathering of VW's most hardcore fans in Reifnitz, Germany on May 28 and a place where all brands managed by the company -- Audi, Skoda, Seat, VW itself and maybe even Bugatti, Bentley and Lamborghini -- get carte blanche to create new concepts with no other purpose than to get the crowds going wild.
