The mid-engine two-seater will be built with a carbon fiber chassis, guaranteeing minimal weight and maximum performance. To be offered in several versions, the new model will likely be priced starting at £120,000 (around $201,000), placing it in competition with sports cars such as the Porsche 911 and the Audi R8.

At the top end of the spectrum, McLaren also confirmed that it will produce a limited edition track-focused version of the P1, the most powerful car in the brand's history. This exclusive model will be available only to clients who already own a McLaren P1.

In 2013, the company delivered 1,359 12Cs and 36 McLaren P1s. This year, the brand added the 650S supercar to its lineup.
