The British supercar company has announced that it is resurrecting the legendary Long Tail 'LT' badge for a brand new model, the 675LT, which will make its global debut in March at the Geneva motor show.

The McLaren F1 GTR was a pretty phenomenal racing car and much of its dazzling performance and road holding was due to the fact that its body had been elongated for better aerodynamics and grip.

As such it became known as the Long Tail and McLaren is trying very hard to evoke the spirit of that car -- which stunned all comers in the 1997 sportscar racing season -- with a new, equally exciting, yet 100% road legal sportscar, the 675LT.

And when it is officially unveiled in Geneva in March it will sit above the 650S and below the P1 hypercar in the company's fast-expanding model hierarchy.

McLaren promises that like the car it's hoping to replicate, the 675LT will be all about speed, downforce, aerodynamics and agility. It will only be offered in hardtop coupé form and though the company won't be revealing performance figures until closer to the official reveal, as with other cars in the McLaren range, the 675 is so called because that's its power output in PS -- that translates to 666bhp.

Alongside the 675LT, McLaren will also be giving the public its first glance of the production-ready version of the P1 GTR, its multimillion-pound track-only hybrid hypercar which is only going to be offered to clients who already have a road-legal McLaren P1 parked in the garage or driveway.
