"We have set a target of selling six million units globally by March 2017, out of which 1.2 million will come from the Asia Oceania region. India will account for 25% of the region's sale," said Yoshiyuki Matsumoto, managing officer, Honda Motor Company.
Honda is hoping that Mobilio will emulate its success in Indonesia — where it outsells its direct competitor, Ertiga — in the Indian market.
"Mobilio is already a success there, selling 46,000 units since its launch in January with 23% market share in the segment. We expect the same success in India and will try to sell as many units as we can here," Matsumoto said.
The Mobilio is powered by 1.5 litre petrol and diesel engines that also power the HondaCity. However, is dearer than the Ertiga by around ₹ 70,000-1,50,000. Though all diesel versions have the anti lock braking system and electronic brake distribution as standard, only the top end petrol version get the same. Dual airbags are also available only in the top end variants.
