Ford announced it will soon launch the next-generation Focus RS, the sportiest version yet of its best-selling hot hatch and the first to be available worldwide.

According to rumors making the rounds on car news sites, the new Focus RS may have up to 330hp, compared to 305hp on the current version, and could debut at NAIAS, which takes place in Detroit from January 17 to 25, 2015.

The American manufacturer has said it will launch 12 new sports cars before 2020 through Ford Performance, the new global brand that unifies all of Ford's previous performance-focused divisions: SVT (Special Vehicle Team) in North America, Team RS in Europe, and Ford Racing.

According to Dave Pericak, who will head up the division, Ford Performance will serve as an 'innovation laboratory and test bed to create unique performance vehicles, parts, accessories, and experiences for customers.' Prior to his new role, Pericak was chief engineer on the Mustang, the 2015 version of which will soon be released in Europe.

The story of the RS label began in 1968 with the Ford 15M RS, which debuted in Germany, followed by the Escort RS1600 two years later. The first-generation Focus RS was introduced in 2002.
