Audi is the only luxury manufacturer that doesn't have a hatchback on offer in India to rival BMW's 1-series, Mercedes-Benz's A-class or Volvo's V40. That's because the carmaker is looking to take competition a step further by introducing the A3 sedan as the most affordable Audi in India this year.
Given the perception of Indians viewing sedans as a more premium buy, especially in the luxury segment, the new entry-level model could play a crucial role in maintaining the company's current momentum.
