Impasse at Toyota India: unions firm
The stalemate over wages that has led to the lockout at the twin manufacturing facilities of Japanese car maker Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) in Bangalore continued on Tuesday after the management and workers failed to arrive at a consensus.
Toyota had announced a lock out on Sunday after multiple talks and seven tripartite meetings including with the state labour department failed over past 10 months.
"The lock out continues as of today and we are hopeful that an early solution can be found," the company said.

State labour minister Parameshwar Naik on Tuesday held separate meetings with top company executives and Toyota Kirloskar Motor Employee Union that represents 4,500 staff.
The lockout threatens to hit Toyota cars sales since it keeps an inventory of 1-2 days.
"Because of disruption of work in our plants in the last 25 days we suffered a production loss of 2000 units," said Shekar Viswanathan, vicechairman, TKM, on Monday.
At the core of the impasse is differences over wage hike for the year 2013-14. While the workers union is demanding an average hike of ₹ 4,000, the company has proposed ₹ 3,050.
