Bajaj Auto on Tuesday signed a deal with Japan-based Kawasaki to sell its motorcycles through the latter's distribution network as co-branded products.

The co-branded bikes will be sold in Indonesia from mid-2013.

Exports account for a third of Bajaj's revenue. The marketing tie-up in Indonesia follows the successful experiment of the same model in Philippines where Bajaj commands 45% market share.

Bajaj has plans to take it to other markets such as Brazil.

'It is a 4 million bike market where Japanese are well-entrenched,' said Ravi Kumar, vice-president, business development, Bajaj Auto. 'If we could garner 20% share, it will be a sizable number.'

Bajaj exports bikes to 35 countries. While it has strong presence in Africa and South Asia, it focuses to expand its business in ASEAN countries and Latin America.
