Tata Group-owned Janguar Land Rover (JLR) on Thursday said from 2020 all its new vehicles will be electrified, making it one of the largest car makers to go electric after Volvo, BMW and Tesla. "Every new JLR model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers even more choice," Ralph Speth, CEO of JLR said.

"We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles. Our first fully electric performance SUV, the Jaguar I-PACE, goes on sale next year".

The announcement comes in the context of demands to ban petrol and diesel cars to curb pollution. The Scotland government has announced phasing them out by 2032, while France has also moved to ban sales of new cars with internal combustion engines.

JLR also set out details of its three vehicles on the electric path.

Jaguar E-type Zero: The E-type combines design with electric power for the first time, based on a 1968 Series 1.5 Roadster and features a cutting-edge electric powertrain for 0-60mph in just 5.5sec. It was engineered by Jaguar Classic at the company's new Classic Works in Warwickshire, UK.

Jaguar I-PACE Concept: The company said with I-PACE it started with a clean sheet and engineered a bespoke, tailored, pure electric SUV from the ground up, creating a design with everyday practicality.
