At the first signs of spring, motorcycle enthusiasts begin taking their rides out of the garage for the first time in months. But before hitting the open road after a period of hibernation, it's a good idea to make sure your motorcycle is in tip-top shape.
Here are seven basic tips for 'de-winterizing' a motorcycle:
1- Recharge the battery.
2- Check the tires and add air if needed.
3- Make sure all lights are functional.
4- Change the oil.
5- Lube the drive chain and speedometer cable.
6- Clean the brakes.
7- Before heading out on a long ride, run the engine for a few minutes to make sure everything is operating like it should.
In case of any uncertainty, especially if you are a newcomer to motorcycle maintenance, be sure to take your bike to a professional mechanic, who will typically run all of the checks above for a fee.
