Bajaj motorcycles on Wednesday showed off the much-awaited additions to its best-selling Pulsar line of motorcycles. The new motorcycles, Pulsar SS400 and CS400, are expected to hit showrooms within a year, with the SS (Super Sport) likely to come first sometime near the beginning of the next financial year.
The two bikes draw heavily on the Pune-based bike maker's focus on sports motorcycles. The SS400 is a full-faired track-spec machine while the naked CS400 (Compact Sport) can broadly be looked at as a sports cruiser. Bajaj has, however, been mum on its exact plans, including the expected price.
The models showcased sported a 375cc, 4-valve liquid-cooled engine. It is expected the engine is built on the joint expertise between Bajaj and Austrian bike-maker KTM. The engine in the new Pulsars would be similar to the one on the on-sale KTM Duke 390.
The two companies have been working closely since the launch of the Duke 200, a result of which is seen in the hugely-successful Pulsar 200NS.
At the Auto Expo on Wednesday, the SS400 was in a yellow-black avatar and the motorcycle sports two parallel projector headlamps in its fairing. Bajaj does not yet have a full-fairing sports bike in its stable, with the closest of the like being the semi-faired Pulsar 220.
Both bikes features beefier front forks, a mono-suspension and anti-lock dual disc brakes.
These models would be the first time Bajaj offers anti-lock braking systems (ABS) in its vehicles even though its competitors TVS and Honda offer it on some of their motorcycles.
