<p>Tesla said on Tuesday that it will use its existing factories to build new and more affordable vehicles as early as late this year, leaving investments in new factories in Mexico and India unlikely in the near term.</p>

<p>The world's top EV maker said it plans to raise production by 50% from 2023 to its current capacity of close to 3 million vehicles before investing in new manufacturing lines. "This update may result in achieving less cost reduction than previously expected but enables us to prudently grow our vehicle volumes in a more capex efficient manner during uncertain times," the company said.</p>

<p>Investors cheered the decision not to take the risks of building new models in new factories, with Tesla shares jumping 12% in after-hour trading despite the company's quarterly results missing financial targets.</p>

<p>"I think it's a positive that he's not just barreling ahead with an expansion plan, ignoring the challenges in the market and the fact that he's doing a cheaper vehicle from the existing product line," said Elliot Johnson, chief investment officer at Evolve ETFs, which manages nearly $6 billion in assets, including investments in Tesla and other EV makers.</p>

<p>Reuters exclusively reported on April 5 that <a class="manualbacklink" target="_blank" href="https://auto.hindustantimes.com/auto/electric-vehicles/tesla-model-2-scrapped-will-focus-on-robotaxi-41712373601413.html">Tesla had scrapped plans to launch its cheap vehicle</a>, known as Model 2, which Tesla planned to build in Texas, Mexico and a third country. The Model 2 had been expected to cost $25,000 and drive Tesla's growth into a mass-market automaker.</p>

<p>Musk had responded to the Reuters report with a message on X that "Reuters is lying." He did not give details and on Tuesday he did not directly address the Reuters report. Instead, Tesla discussed unidentified new models that appeared to be different products.</p>

<p>In January, Musk said Tesla aimed to deliver the cheaper new model in the second half of 2025, adding that the model will have "revolutionary manufacturing technology" and generate the next wave of growth for Tesla.</p>

<p>But Lars Moravy, head of Tesla's engineering, said on Tuesday that new manufacturing processes and production lines come with "some risks," and the automaker made a "major shift" to utilize its facilities to build low-cost vehicles in a fast and efficient manner for now.</p>

<p><a class="manualbacklink" target="_blank" href="https://auto.hindustantimes.com/auto/electric-vehicles/thrice-is-magic-elon-musk-to-meet-pm-narendra-modi-again-heres-what-to-expect-41712763506663.html">Musk had been expected to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi </a>on Monday and announce major investments in an auto factory to produce a small, affordable model. Musk canceled at the last minute, citing "very heavy Tesla obligations" and said he aimed to reschedule the visit for later this year.</p>

<p>Musk said last year that Tesla will "definitely" build its factory in Mexico, but that the timing of the factory would depend on the economy and interest rates that reduce the affordability of vehicles. He also said that Tesla would start the initial phases of construction last year.</p>

<p>Tesla did not respond to a request for comment on Tuesday on its plans in Mexico and India.</p>

<p>Analysts said it would be hard for Tesla to expand capacity while it braces for slowing sales after years of double-digit growth rates. Tesla on Tuesday reiterated that this year, its vehicle volume growth rate may be notably lower than in 2023. Musk added during a conference call that sales would still grow from last year.</p>

<p>Smaller peer Rivian, known for its R1S SUVs and R1T pickup trucks, said last month it would start producing its smaller, less expensive electric R2 SUVs at its existing U.S. factory to hasten deliveries in the first half of 2026. It had previously planned to build the R2 at a new $5 billion plant.</p>

<p>Installation of aftermarket LED headlamps has witnessed a massive surge across India over the last few years as the demand for bright white LED lights has ramped up. While several automakers offer white LED headlights in their respective vehicles as factory fitment, many car owners opt for aftermarket installation in case the vehicle comes with conventional yellow lamps. The Transport Department of the Government of Gujarat has reportedly issued a directive stating that the installation of unauthorized white LED headlights in any type of vehicle is now prohibited, claims a report by Desh Gujarat.</p>

<p>The notification reportedly stated that vehicle owners caught with modifications such as white LED light installation will face penalties. The Ahmedabad RTO has reportedly initiated a campaign targeting vehicles with unauthorised lights. In the directive, the Commissionerate of Transport of the Government of Gujarat has highlighted the seriousness of the issue.</p>

<p>The excessively bright white light emitted by the white LED lights and additional lights can pose danger to the traffic coming from the opposite direction as the glare of the white light may blind the drivers coming from the opposite direction. This could as a result lead to a major and fatal mishap. The directive has instructed all the RTOs under the Commissionerate’s jurisdiction to conduct enforcement drives and submit action-taken reports.</p>

<p>The issue with the aftermarket fitment of LED lights is not only confined to urban areas. On national highways as well, the use of white LED headlights poses a major distraction for drivers and other vehicles, resulting in numerous accidents. The Commissioner of Transport has reportedly received multiple complaints about unauthorized white LED lights causing distractions, which prompted it to issue a written directive for stringent enforcement. The report also stated that besides taking legal action against the vehicle owners installing such white LED lights, the authorities will also crack down on auto accessory shops selling and installing unauthorised white LED lights.</p>

Confirmed: 2024 Bajaj Pulsar NS400 set for launch on May 3rd

<p>For years, rumours have swirled about a 400cc Pulsar, with enthusiasts speculating and creating renders since the brand introduced the <a class="manualbacklink" target="_blank" href="https://auto.hindustantimes.com/new-bikes/bajaj/pulsarns200">Pulsar NS200</a> in India. Finally, Bajaj Auto has confirmed the launch of its largest Pulsar yet on May 3. As anticipated, the motorcycle will be named the <a class="manualbacklink" target="_blank" href="https://auto.hindustantimes.com/new-bikes/bajaj/pulsar-ns400">Pulsar NS400</a>.</p>

<p>Because the manufacturer is using the ‘NS’ moniker in the nameplate, it can be expected that the frame will be shared with the Pulsar NS200. So, expect it to be a Perimeter frame that will be suspended by upside-down forks in the front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking duties will be done by a disc at both ends. It can be expected that the braking and suspension hardware could be shared with the <a class="autobacklink-topic" target="_blank" href="https://auto.hindustantimes.com/new-bikes/bajaj/pulsarn250" data-name="Pulsar N250">Pulsar N250</a> and Pulsar NS200.</p>

<p>In terms of features, there would be a dual-channel Anti-lock braking system with three modes for it. There would be Rain, Road and On/Off. There would be new switch gear on offer to control the new instrument cluster which is also expected to be shared with the new Pulsars.</p>

<p>It is an all-new all-digital unit that comes with Bluetooth connectivity through the <a class="autobacklink-topic" target="_blank" href="https://auto.hindustantimes.com/new-bikes/bajaj" data-name="Bajaj">Bajaj</a> Ride Connect mobile application. The instrument cluster can show notifications, and call management as well. Moreover, there is also a USB port to charge the mobile device. The new cluster can show real-time updates on fuel consumption, average fuel economy, and gear position.</p>

<p>As of now, it is not confirmed which engine Bajaj will use for the upcoming NS400. It could be the 373 cc unit that is doing duty on the <a class="autobacklink-topic" target="_blank" href="https://auto.hindustantimes.com/new-bikes/bajaj/dominar400" data-name="Dominar 400">Dominar 400</a> and comes from the previous-gen <a class="manualbacklink" target="_blank" href="https://auto.hindustantimes.com/new-bikes/ktm/390duke">390 Duke</a>. Or, the brand will rework the new 399 cc engine that made its debut with the new-gen 390 Duke.</p>
