FAQ FASTags: All questions answered
To make the toll tax collection process smooth and effortless, the Indian government has introduced ‘FASTag’. Here is the list of all the recently asked question about it.
What is FASTag and how does it work?
FASTag is a chip based device that’s affixed on the windscreen of a vehicle which makes toll payments directly from the user’s prepaid account linked to it. It enables a user to pass through the toll plazas without stopping for cash/card transactions. It is based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.
What are the benefits of using a FASTag?
The user doesn’t need to carry cash for the toll tax transaction as the amount is payed directly from the customer’s prepaid account linked to the tag. Apart from the ease of payment, the FASTag service also saves time as the tax is collected on the go. Moreover, SMS and email alerts are sent to the user’s phone for toll transactions, low balance, etc. Online portal is also available which provides transaction history and other details about the FASTag.
How to buy a FASTag?
A FASTag can be bought via number of ways. There are several authorized banks which are facilitating the purchase of FASTag, on the other hand, it can also be bought from NHAI centres that have been set up next to many major toll plazas.
Moreover, you can also easily buy the FASTag at HTAuto.com.
How to recharge a FASTag?
There are two ways it can be done. If the FASTag is directly linked to a bank, the toll tax amount will be automatically deducted from the user’s account. On the other hand, if it’s linked to a mobile payment system, the e-wallet will have to be recharged in advance using transactions like UPI, credit or debit card or net banking. Also, a minimum balance will have to be maintained in the e-wallet.
Can you use two FASTags for one vehicle?
