The Volvo EX40 is an electric SUV that was launched in India and is available at a price of ₹49 lakh (ex-showroom) for one variant. It was originally called the XC40 Recharge but was renamed to the EX40 in November 2024. The carmaker also increased the price of the car by ₹1.50 lakh. The change in nomenclature came after Volvo Cars renamed the model as EX40 in the global markets. At present, the XC40 Recharge will be sold until stocks last. Beyond that, the EX40 will be offered as the Swedish carmaker’s entry-level electric SUV in India.
The EX40 electric SUV is priced at ₹49 lakh (ex-showroom).
The exterior design highlights a blanked-out grille, LED headlamps, 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, black cladding on the front and rear bumpers, and vertically stacked LED taillights. Inside, the EX40 includes a 12-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a vertically stacked touchscreen infotainment system, a 13-speaker Harman Kardon-sourced music system, and a 360-degree camera. Additional comfort and convenience features include electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, dual-zone climate control, and others.
The Volvo EX40 AWD is powered by a 78 kWh battery pack that produces a maximum power output of 402 bhp and 660 Nm of torque. This motor powers all four wheels and has a claimed driving range of 418 km on a single charge. The battery pack can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 28 minutes using a 150 kW DC fast charger. The Plus variant, on the other hand, is equipped with a 69 kWh battery pack, producing 238 bhp and 420 Nm of torque. This one has a WLTP-claimed range of up to 475 kilometers.
The Volvo EX40 has received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. It brings a wide range of assisted safety features such as 360° parking view, cross traffic alert with autobrake, blind spot detection, lane driving aids, and collision avoidance.
