Volkswagen Polo:

The Volkswagen Polo was one of the most popular hatchbacks in India, which was discontinued in April 2022 after a production run of 12 years. The Polo was manufactured at VW's Chakan plant in Maharashtra since 2009 and made its official India debut at the Auto Expo 2010. This premium hatchback was the best-selling car from Volkswagen's lineup in India, having reached the milestone of selling 2.5 lakh units.

The Volkswagen Polo was launched with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit and a 1.2-litre turbo-diesel mill, while a 1.6-litre petrol unit was added later in 2010. In 2013, the 1.6-litre petrol engine was replaced by a direct-injection 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit with a DCA.

In 2014, the 1.2-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engines were replaced by a 1.5-litre TDI unit that could be had in two states of tune. With the BS6 emissions norms, the VW Group ditched all of its diesel powertrains, replacing them with more economical 1.0-litre three-cylinder engines in naturally aspirated or turbocharged versions.

The volkswagen polo has been around for years qnd has built a reputation for being a solid, reliable hatchback. It's a car that feels European in every sense. Clean styling, strong build, and great handling. If you're thinking of buying one or are just curious about what it offers, here's a straightforward breakdown of how it fares in different areas like looks, performance, mileage, servicing and more. Looks and styling: The polo has a classic, timeless design. It doesn't scream for attention, but that's also what makes it attractive. It looks neat and elegant. The front grille, the sharp headlamps, and the clean lines along the side give it a mature and premium appearance. Unlike many other hatchbacks that go for flashy looks, the polo keeps things simple and sophisticated. Over the years, VW has made small changes to its design-like updated headlamps, alloys, and tail lights-but overall, it has kept the same shape. Performance:The drive experience is solid, qnd gives you a lot of confidence on the road. The polo has come with several engine options over the years. Petrol and diesel, manual and automatic. But the standout among them has to be the 1.0 litre TSI turbo petrol engine. It's a small engine, but it packs a punch. You get around 110 PS of power, and the turbo gives it that extra kick when you need to overtake or speed up on highways. Driving the polo feels stable and planted, especially at high speeds. It handles corners really well, qnd the steering has good feedback. Mileage: Now when it comes to fuel efficiency, the polo is decent, though not class-leading. The older 1.2 litre petrol models gave around 13-15 kmpl in city driving and about 17-18 kmpl on highways. The newer 1.0 TSI engine, being turbocharged, offers slightly better mileage if you drive sensibly -around 15-17 kmpl in the city and 18-20 kmpl on highways. Servicing and maintenance experience: volkswagen had a reputation for high service costs in the past, but things have improved in recent years. The company has introduced service value packages, and now, the cost of maintaining a polo is much more reasonable. On average, a yearly service costs between ?7000 to ?10000, depending on the variant and what parts need replacement. Regular servicing includes engine oil, filters, brake check-up, AC cleaning, etc. What owners like is that the build quality is solid, so parts don't wear out too quickly. You won't haer rattling sounds or feel the car aging fast. That's a big plus.
