The Tata Sierra EV marks the revival of one of Tata Motors’ most iconic nameplates in an all-electric avatar. Originally launched in 1991, the Sierra was among India’s first homegrown SUVs. The upcoming electric version reimagines the nameplate for the electric era, combining retro-inspired design cues with advanced EV architecture. Showcased in concept form at multiple events and accompanied by a near-production-ready ICE version at Auto Expo 2025, the Sierra EV will be positioned as a premium, all-electric SUV in Tata's expanding EV portfolio.
The Sierra EV is expected to be priced in the range of ₹25 lakh to ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it above the Tata Harrier EV and Nexon EV in Tata’s electric lineup.
The Tata Sierra launch date is expected to be in the second half of 2025 or early 2026. It will arrive shortly after the ICE version, which has already been showcased in a pre-production form.
While the full variant lineup of the Sierra EV has not yet been disclosed, it is likely to be offered with multiple trims differentiated by battery pack capacity and drivetrain configuration. Tata is also expected to offer a fresh colour palette, including the concept’s showcased vibrant yellow exterior and other premium dual-tone finishes.
The SUV will be underpinned by Tata’s dedicated acti.ev platform, which supports both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. Though exact battery details are yet to be revealed, the Sierra EV is expected to come with two battery pack options and offer an estimated driving range between 450 km and 550 km on a full charge. Higher variants are expected to offer dual-motor AWD variants as well.
The upcoming Sierra EV will retain the concept’s signature wraparound rear glass, upright stance, and futuristic SUV proportions. Inside, it is expected to feature a triple-screen layout spanning the width of the dashboard, which is a first for Tata vehicles. The feature list will include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, premium upholstery, and ambient lighting.
Further features are expected to include dual-display infotainment system, wireless smartphone integration, connected car features, and a 360-degree HD camera setup. Tata is also expected to include remote access functions, OTA updates, and smart key features seen on other recent Tata EVs.
Tata will likely include a comprehensive suite of safety features, comprising multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, traction control, and hill hold assist. Additionally, the Sierra EV is expected to be offered with Level 2 ADAS functionality, featuring adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera system. The SUV is also expected to comply with Bharat NCAP 5-star safety norms.
The Tata Sierra EV will rival other premium electric SUVs in the Indian market, such as the Mahindra XEV 9e and the BYD eMax 7.
