Skoda Auto began as a small bicycle repair shop in Mlada Boleslav in 1895, and was originally known as the Laurin & Klement Co., after its founders Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement. Since 2000, it has been based in the Czech Republic and has been wholly owned by the Volkswagen Group.
In
1899, the Laurin & Klement Co. began producing motorcycles, then in 1905, they began producing automobiles. By 1925, they formed an agreement with Pilsen Skoda Co. The historic Laurin & Klement brand was phased out of the industry as a result of this merger, and most automobiles produced after that were branded as Skodas, including the legendary model 'Popular.' Skoda manufactured components for military terrain vehicles, military jets, and other weapon components throughout WWII. Skoda began producing their first postwar car, the 1101 series, when the facility was restored. Skoda became a part of the communist planned economy in 1948 and the Skoda 440 Spartak, 445 Octavia Felicia, and Skoda 1000 MB were all produced by them. In 1960, the Skoda Felicia was introduced into the United States.
The Skoda Favorit was first produced in 1987. Skoda reached a significant milestone in its history in 1990, when it entered into a joint venture with the Volkswagen Group of Germany, and began operating under the Skoda brand name in 1991. Skoda Auto India Private Limited, headquartered in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, was established as a subsidiary of the firm in India in 2001.
The Skoda Kushaq 2021 is the company's most recent model in India. Customers can pick between two engine options, Active, Ambition, and Style, which are available in three variations.
