Hyundai Ioniq 6: Overview

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a fully electric mid-size sedan that was first revealed to Indian audiences at the Auto Expo 2023. Positioned as a premium offering in Hyundai’s electric mobility lineup, the car adopts a streamlined fastback design inspired by the brand’s ‘Prophecy’ concept. With a coupe-like roofline, advanced electric drivetrain options, and a comprehensive list of premium features, the Ioniq 6 is expected to reinforce Hyundai’s presence in the high-end EV segment in India. It is expected to go on sale in the country; however, there is no official confirmation regarding the model’s availability on our shores.

Hyundai Ioniq 6: Expected Price

The US-spec 2025 Ioniq 6 is sold at a starting price of $37,850 ( ₹32.53 lakh). While the final variant lineup for India has not been confirmed, the electric sedan is likely to be introduced in a single, fully loaded configuration. Expected prices are projected to begin at around ₹65 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the specifications and import route adopted for the Indian market. Internationally, the sedan is offered with multiple battery and drivetrain configurations, but India is likely to be limited to the larger battery option.

Hyundai Ioniq 6: Launch Date

The Ioniq 6 is expected to launch in India by 2026. However, it is not officially confirmed to be on the table.

Hyundai Ioniq 6: Battery and Range

Hyundai offers the Ioniq 6 with two battery pack options – 53 kWh and 77.4 kWh. The latter can be had with either a single or a dual electric motor setup. The smaller 53 kWh battery allows for a claimed single-charge range of 386.2 km. The 77.4 kWh battery in the RWD models with a single electric motor allows for a range of 550 km per charge, while the same for the AWD variants is 508.5 km.

Hyundai Ioniq 6: Specs & Features

The Ioniq 6 RWD makes 149 bhp and 350 Nm of torque with its single motor setup in the base variant. The higher-spec RWD variants make 225 bhp of power. The AWD variants turn it up a notch with 320 bhp and 605 Nm of torque.

The design adopts a fluid, aerodynamic silhouette with elongated proportions. Exterior elements include flush door handles, a coupe-style roofline, and LED lighting elements, with dual-strip LED headlamps that contribute to its distinctive appearance.

Inside, the cabin is equipped with a dual 12.3-inch screen layout, which includes a digital driver’s display and touchscreen infotainment unit. Additional features include a Bose eight-speaker sound system with subwoofer, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, and Hyundai’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability. The EV also supports Hyundai’s connected car suite and includes a heads-up display.

Hyundai Ioniq 6: Rivals

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 will compete with a growing list of premium electric sedans in the Indian market. Chief among its rivals are the BMW i4 and the Tesla Model 3, with indirect competition also coming from the Kia EV6, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and the C40 Recharge.
